We spent two weeks in this great place. Tim was lucky to get two weeks of relief teaching work in an Anglican primary school here. It helps when the Principal of the school is also a great mate of your brothers! With Tim having so much work, we made the decision to get out of the camper for a bit and into a house/cabin. Yippee!!!!
During the first week, we rented a house in town that we found on gumtree for 3 nights. During the second week we got a cabin in the caravan park we had been staying in. This gave us the opportunity to rest, relax, recharge and find some routine. Dylan loved being in the house so much he wanted to tackle all of the housework! Such novelty.
We explored the area with a visit to Gnomesville…
and the Forest of Discovery (though there was not much to discover there, but it was lovely walk).
We visited the quaint country town of Donnybrook and the kids played at the largest free playground in WA.
Sam and Dylan enjoyed the Dolphin Discovery Centre on Koombana Bay.
Our tickets were good for 3 visits. Probably due to the fact that the ‘discovering of dolphins’ is quite random and possibly we wouldn’t see any. We actually went there twice and didn’t see any dolphins both times. This was the closest we got to a Dolphin. Oh well, lucky we have great memories at Monkey Mia.
Sam and Dylan have recently revived their enthusiasm for cricket so we took several trips to the cricket nets in Bunbury. This is usually Tim’s domain and I gave the boys hours of laughter as they watched me trying to bowl to them. Sam and Dylan were very helpful as they tried to offer me tips on how to get this darn ball down the pitch – straight!
We also caught up with our friend, Martin and his family. Martin’s eldest daughter, Kimmy is in year 10 and she is a wonderful young singer. We really enjoyed listening to her talented trio, Three Steps North.
On our final weekend, we headed to the small country town of Bridgetown and the annual Blues and Roots Festival. There were so many great musicians and performers. One of our favorite bands was Mr and Sunbird from Perth. The groove and energy from this band was so infectious and we sat on the lawn drinking our beers and soaking up the atmosphere. Awesome.
We were a little sad to leave Bunbury as it is such a great town. Actually, we weren’t sad for long as we discovered we’d left all of our clothes in the closet of the cabin and had to travel back from Bridgetown the next day to pick them up. We’re just not used to having furniture to store our clothes. When we left the cabin, we had checked behind doors and under beds and lounges, but in the closet – no, not there! Derrrr…
Dylan – Bunbury was really great because we got to stay in a house for three days, then we got to stay in a cabin for nearly a week. We also got to see Kimmy sing in her band. We went to the Dolphin Discovery Centre but there wasn’t much discovering because we didn’t see any dolphins there. I really liked going to the Apple Funpark in Donnybrook and going to Gnomesville.
Until next time…
