After 5 months on the road, our Ultimate camper trailer has been awesome but we were definitely looking forward to having another break from it and visiting family. Esperance was our opportunity to do just that.
My intrepid elder brother and his family recently moved from Manly (Sydney) and bought a run down chalet village (Esperance Chalet Village) and are in the process of returning it to its former glory. In the short four months since they moved in, they have done an impressive job of cleaning up and refurbishing.
We had 6 lazy days with my brother and his family as well as my parents who flew from Sydney to join us. It was wonderful to spend time with family and sleep in a beautifully appointed cabin. Luxury! Sam and Dylan loved hanging out with their cousins and had loads of fun with Ivy.
Most of our time was spent hanging out with family but we did make a few forays to the world famous beaches. I even tried surfing again.
The coastline is stunning. Impressive pink granite outcrops adorn the coast with impossibly white sand beaches squeezed in between.
Even the coastline around the port looked pretty good. We found a nice sheltered spot for a picnic here.
It was a little cold – and no, it wasn’t fancy dress!
Esperance is idyllic, except for the thought in the back of your mind reminding you that this is the location of Australia’s most recent shark attack. Some poor bugger got both hands (and some) bitten off by one of the locals.
All in all a wonderfully relaxing week in what has to be one of Australia’s most gorgeous sections of coast.
